When I first started as a photographer, I wasn’t sure I even wanted to do mini sessions. But after doing mini sessions for a couple years and having kids of my own, I’ve realized why they are so perfect for family portraits!

Getting the whole family together and looking nice at the same time is no small feat! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve put my girls in cute outfits only to have them ruined immediately by juice or spit-up or loosing a cute bow or head-band! The struggle is real. But this is why mini sessions are so great for families! Especially if you’re looking to get yearly updated photos!

Most kids attention spans are not that long, especially if they’re little! And teenagers don’t usually love to smile for the camera. So, limiting the amount of time that everyone needs to pay attention is perfect! During my mini sessions, I like to jump right in and I take photos constantly! The whole 25 minutes, my shutter is going off like crazy! I use quick prompts and poses that are easy for everyone to understand! This way we can get some fun interactive shots that portray your family relationship (like jumping, tackling, tickling, running, etc.) and we can also get those ‘everyone smiling at the camera shots’ before everyone gets too tired!

I’ll even make sure that I get a few shots of any combination you’re looking for! The ones I typically go for are each kid individually, all the kids together & just mom & dad. I grab all the kids first and then start with individual shots of the littlest kiddo and work my way through the rest! And after that, the kids are done! They can run off to the car or go play while I grab some shots of just you and your love! I’ll keep you busy the whole time and before you know it, the session is over! Everyone leaves happy and you’ll have some amazing images at the end of it all!
