Silver Falls Engagement Session | Ricki & Dylan | Sarah Tapp Photo + Events

Ricki & Dylan booked their wedding with me and the first step was to get engagement photos! When they mentioned that they wanted to do their engagement session at Silver Falls State Park I was all for it! I was in Portland area photographing Emalee & Ryan’s wedding and wanted to do Ricki & Dylan’s Silver Falls engagement session in the same trip! So, I headed to Silver Falls through beautiful scenery and when I got there everything was gorgeous and green! Ricki & Dylan grew up coming to Silver Falls so it was a special place to them.

Ricki & Dylan met through mutual friends and started chatting. They set a time for their first date and before they could have it, Ricki got in a car accident. One of the things Ricki said is that ‘Dylan was one of the few people who would constantly check up on her and made an effort to be there just for communication’. How sweet is that!? They had their first date on Valentine’s Day (which Ricki hates, by the way) and she wouldn’t actually make it official until the next day! haha. About 3 months before Dylan proposed, they picked out a ring and then Dylan hid it in their house in a spot that he knew Ricki couldn’t reach! Dylan asked Ricki on a day date and they had lunch at one of their favorite local restaurants and then walked around town and to a covered bridge. As Ricki puts it, ‘Dylan was trying to show [her] something in the water, classic Dylan move’ and then he got down on one knee and proposed! She doesn’t remember anything she said because she immediately started crying! Awh! Gotta love these stories!

Their Silver Falls engagement session was definitely cloudy, and we had a little bit of rain sprinkles but the light was amazing! I love photographing when it’s cloudy because it makes all the colors more vibrant and no shadows on faces!! So, we got started and Ricki said that Dylan never takes photos so this was a huge deal to get him to agree to engagement photos! haha. But they both seemed happy and we clicked so fast! They were just so easy to get a long with and their relationship is so cute! They are super playful with each other and were totally up for whatever I had in mind! Not to mention, they were SO patient when I realized that my camera battery was dying and I had left my spare at the wedding venue the day before. *face palm* We adapted and thankfully my battery lasted just long enough for the session! Talk about miracles!

Once I got over the shock of not having my spare battery, we ventured out on one of the trails at Silver Falls. Suddenly we came to the top of this huge waterfall and it was SO pretty! And you better believe we got a bunch of waterfall photos! It was so unique and I loved hanging out with Ricki & Dylan and getting to know them better! I can’t wait for their wedding next summer!!
