Typically, they will take on vendor communication about a month before your wedding and then on the day of, they'll coordinate with vendors, ensure the wedding day timeline is followed, be the contact person and handle any problems that might come up.

A coordinator is just there on your wedding day to communicate with vendors, ensure the timeline is followed and handle any problems that come up. A planner is there from the very beginning and helps with hiring all your vendors, planning the decor, layout and wedding day timeline and will be there on the day of to follow through with all the plans.
