On Goals 2018 | Idaho Wedding Photographer | Sarah Tapp Photography

Happy New Year! Man, I feel like 2017 just flew by! But it was a good year. I really believe in trying to improve and become better everyday which is why I make goals for myself every year.

I must say, I did better with my 2017 goals at the beginning of the year than at the end, but I did accomplish some of my major goals! I finished and upgraded my website and I love it! I also put together a dream styled shoot and had the chance to work with AMAZING vendors! I upgraded my equipment and second shot a lot. And boy, have I learned so much from doing these 3 things this year. I’ve realized that I LOVE being a wedding photographer! Doesn’t matter if it’s my bride or another photographers’ bride. I love love and I love being there to capture emotional and sentimental moments on your special day. I’ve also realized that I can be a people person sometimes! I am naturally an introvert, but working with wedding vendors is SO FUN! I love collaborating and seeing a vision come to life.

My personal goals were not quite as successful this year, but I do feel like I made some improvements. Each year, my husband and I write down a gift for our Savior, Jesus Christ. We think of something that we are going to work on all year for Him. And last year was have faith in God and in me. I’m the type of person that I’ll just try to solve problems on my own and with logic instead of just having faith and a positive attitude. I always think I know better than God. Which is CRAZY! Because I know I really don’t. I had my baby girl at the end of 2016, so the beginning of 2017 was pretty rough. I was really sick and felt like I wasn’t going to get better. And then my mom told me to stay positive and have faith! duh! (Read more about that here) And from then on out, I really worked on having faith, even in the small things.

Towards the end of 2017, I did some serious thinking and praying about my business and my personal life. I made some attainable goals and I feel so good about them! 2018 is going to be awesome! And I am so excited to work hard and hustle in my business especially! So, I want to share some of my goals with you.

2018 business goals

~ Editing ~ I feel like I have been in such an editing funk lately! I love natural light and photography and I really want my images to be real. I want the colors to be true and I want the lighting to be natural. So, I am going to learn how to shoot in white balance so I can use a preset on my images! I really want my editing to be more consistent and natural.

~ Budget and save better ~ I have never actually set a budget for my business. I just go with the flow and decide what I want to spend money on when I get it. But this year is going to be different! I am going to make a list of everything I need to spend money on for my business this year and budget, budget, budget! And what I don’t use, I am going to save instead of just splurging on things I don’t need!

2018 personal goals

~ Simplify! ~ 2017 was WAY too crazy. I took on too much because I felt myself getting complacent. I am a busy body and I like to be productive. But instead of actually being productive, I spent my time getting distracted with things that weren’t important. (Read more about that here) So this year I am going to be intentional with my time! I am going to simplify my life and not take on too much!

~ Health ~ Okay, okay. I know everyone has this goal. To get into shape, to loose weight, etc. etc. But for me, it’s a little different. I have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and it is not fun. My stomach hurts 90% of the time and I have heartburn constantly. I’m always worried about what I’m eating that it makes me not want to eat. So, this year I’m really going to try to listen to my body. I’m going to figure out what foods trigger my pain and actually stay away from them, instead of just staying away from ‘bad foods’ because someone else told me that that’s what I need to stay away from.

I hope that by sharing my goals with you, it will motivate me to really stick with them and improve myself and my business for 2018.
