I graduated with a Bachelor’s in July of 2014 and Geoffrey came home from his mission in August! I remember going to the airport with his family to welcome him home. I wasn’t quite sure what was going to happen because I didn’t know if it would take him a while to adjust back to life or if he was going to start school right away or not. I had NO IDEA! So, as you can imagine, I was a little nervous when he came home.
But, everything seemed to fall into place. The first moment I saw him was crazy! I remember feeling ALL the feels and he wouldn’t even give me a hug! haha. But I went home with him and his family and he was released as a missionary later that night. And what an amazing experience that was. I’ve only seen Geoff tear up….maybe 5 times since I’ve known him (which by the way has been 6 years). So, it’s definitely a rare occasion. But as he was being released from his mission, he bore a powerful testimony that made him and all the rest of us tear up. His mission was the best thing for him and after a blessing from his dad a couple days later, he knew exactly what he needed to do with his life.
Geoff and I talked almost constantly after he got home. At first it was through Facebook messaging because he didn’t have a phone yet. But, that situation was quickly rectified. And we spent as much time together as we could. I had just gotten a new job and was still working an old one, so my schedule was pretty crazy and Geoff was trying to find a job as well. But, we were going on dates and hanging out all the time.
I remember one specific date. We were on our way home from some married friends’ house and Geoff started talking about marriage. And of course, the subject had come up before but this time was different. He told me about the blessing that he’d had from his dad and said that he was ready to go ring shopping.
